DR. RICK THOMAS | PSYCHOLOGIST | RAYMORE PSYCHOLOGIST

WELCOME TO MY BLOG - DR. RICK THOMAS

I have practiced psychology since 1985. I am a Missouri and Kansas Licensed Psychologist. My behavioral health care experience has been wide and varied. I have provided psychological services at the UMKC Community Counseling Center, Osawatomie State Hospital, Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center and my private practice in Belton Missouri. My clients have included children, adolescents, young, middle aged and elderly adults.

My undergraduate studies were completed at Graceland College earning a Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1980. My Masters in Counseling and Guidance was completed at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1985. My doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology was completed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Houston, Texas in 1989. This is an internship approved by the American Psychological Association. I completed my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1991. This is a training program approved by the American Psychological Association.

I decided in 1992, I desired to broaden my behavioral health care skills. I engaged in extensive postgraduate training in Biofeedback at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas. I started providing clinical biofeedback services in 1994. I was privileged to complete two years of specialty training under the supervision of Dr. Dale Walters, a clinical psychologist/behavioral health care professional who has twenty-nine years of experience at the Menninger Clinic. In 1998, I attained certification in EEG biofeedback by demonstrating an advanced competency to use EEG biofeedback instrumentation for the purposes of monitoring, recognizing and assisting in physiological self-regulation according to the ethical principals and practices of the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA). Clinical biofeedback experience includes individuals with anxiety, TMJ pain, depression, closed head injuries, addiction, ADD, ADHD and other psychiatric disorders.

My office, dedicated to behavioral healthcare, is located in a small red brick house that was fully renovated into an office building. All renovations comply with current building codes for commercial buildings per licensed architect. My behavioral health care office has a private entrance and a second private exit available to all clients. The renovation maintained a home-like atmosphere. For example my office has a wood-burning fireplace. It is handicapped accessible. Parking for non-handicapped clients is behind the building. The parking area is brightly lit and access restricted for client safety and confidentiality. The parking area for handicapped clients is within ten feet of the entrance.

Scope of private practice includes weekly therapy for persons from ages seven through eighty. The clear majority of clients who present for treatment are experiencing anxiety and mood disorders. Therapy is structured based upon written treatment plans, which outline measurable objectives. Treatment plans are based upon client needs by using a brief therapy, behavior modification, cognitive behavioral and other behavioral health care models. I contact primary care physicians for coordination of care.

Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. through 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The purpose of the initial visit is to gather thorough information from each client for optimal results from therapy. Each client is provided a time to detail why they are seeking psychological services. Each client responds to numerous questions based upon his or her presenting problem or problems. It is my commitment to you to provide the best possible behavioral health care.
